This week, myself and Alex Diaz met with Judge Lindsey, the presiding judge of the Orange County Veterans Court and the Veterans Court team, which included representatives from the district attorney's office, public defender's office, probation, OC Health Care Agency, and the VA.
As a chapter, we have several members/resources who are qualified to provide the following services to veterans and we have offered to provide the following services to the Veterans Court if needed:
- Family Violence/Domestic Violence prevention program, facilitated by Jerry Tello.
- Anger Management Program, facilitated by Dr. Alfonso Alvarez.
- Parenting Program, facilitated by member volunteers.
- Case Management, facilitated by volunteers/interns and supervised by Dr. Alfonso Alvarez.
- Family Support Group, facilitated by community partners.
Other Items:
- We are ready for the Men and Women of Honor (Family Violence/Domestic Violence Prevention) presentation scheduled for September 12, 2009.
- We are ready for the Latino Advocates for Education Veterans Day event in November hosted at Cal State Fullerton. We have a table reserved so that we can distribute information regarding our efforts.
- Our website is operational www.agifrudyescalante.com
- We are working on an open house event with our community partner, SER, Jobs for Progress Inc., Orange County, which was founded as a collaborative effort between the American GI Forum of the United States and the League of United Latin American Citizens.
- We have registered as a community partner with the US Census.

I am honored to have been recently elected as the new commander of the Rudy Escalante Chapter (REC). As the new commander, I would like to extend an invitation to you to attend our next meeting (meeting information below).
Here is my proposed agenda for the following year:
1) Explore the implementation of a youth leadership academy.
2) Work with the CA AGIF for the full implementation in our county of a domestic violence program for veterans.
3) Establish a working relationship with the Orange County Veterans Court.
4) Assist in the development of a support group for veterans and a support group for family members of veterans.
5) Develop a plan to increase chapter membership.
6) Create a chapter website.
7) Establish a working relationships with local non-profits.
8) Develop a program to assist eligible high school student to apply for military academies.
9) Establish a mailing list of servicemen in combat who can serve as distribution contacts for care packages from the AGIF REC.
10) Collaborate with other veterans organizations to advance our chapter goals.
The AGIF is a family veterans organization. Membership is open to veterans, their family members, and members of the community. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
